Deity Information
» Pantheon: Hindu
» Deity: Hanuman
» Reference: First link or second link
» Divine Family: {mother & father} Anjana and Kesari (though Vayu, god of the wind, is said to have brought the magic pudding to Anjana so take it as you will); {spouse} sometimes said to have married Lankasundari; {siblings} none; {children} Macchanu, Matsyaraja
» Mythology: Born as the result of some left-over magic pudding that was snatched away and delivered to an air spirit cursed to live as a monkey-woman until she gave birth to a son, Hanuman has always had quite the colorful span of myths. The fact that he is often regarded as an incarnation of Shiva does nothing to make him a chill, soothing sort of god either. Neither does the fact that he is quite literally a monkey-man with all that implies.

One of the first stories told of Hanuman was how, as a child, he mistook the sun as a ripe mango and went chasing after it, running him up in direct conflict with other heavenly influences (either Indra or Rahu, depending) who struck him down for his defiance. The result was a scar to his chin and a heaping helping of conciliatory boons such as super-strength, invincibility, and shape-shifting. Plus other countless goodies. It was good to be a monkey.

As he got a bit older, he decided that he wanted to learn from the best and so asked Surya the sun to teach him. Surya initially refused but was finally won over by Hanuman’s persistence. At the end of his training, Hanuman asked what he owed; Surya merely replied that it was a privilege and pleasure to teach someone so devoted.

The most notable range of stories involving Hanuman is the Ramayana where he becomes the greatest helper and most devoted follower of Rama in his search for Sita. While serving the dethroned monkey king Sugriva, he met Rama and his brother. From that point on, he aligned himself with the divine Rama with utter devotion. He journeyed far and wide, located Sita, burned down the town with his tail on fire, killed a few demons, built a bridge, carried a mountain... You know, stuff you do when you serve an incarnation of Vishnu faithfully. He also wrote an epic, awesome version of their adventures but destroyed it when the Maharishi Valmiki was sad that his own version was inadequate in comparison. When Rama and Sita elevated after many long years of ruling, Hanuman requested permission to stay on earth as long as Rama’s name was held holy.

By the way, he says that the introduction of celibacy into his stories was just something introduced by some medieval devotees. Don’t believe it, ladies. He’s just picky.

» Ability:
Active - Hanuman has a special gift of devotion that, when he opts to bestow it on someone, improves everything about that person; the strong become stronger, the wise become wiser, and any venture they decide to pursue has a noticeably increased chance of success.
Subconscious - Hanuman/Javi picks up things really quickly and with little effort. He remembers anything delivered to him in a verbal manner perfectly; written material is a little less dependable. Needless to say, his teachers have all learned what his learning method is.
Passive - Hanuman has elevated strength, speed, agility, and stamina (just under three times that of an athlete in peak condition). It is also damn hard to kill him but you can definitely hurt him.

» History:
89 BC - The first great fire at the Library of Alexandria - A low-level scribe, Hanuman lost his life trying to extinguish the flames.

1099 AD - Died a young Jewish civilian after the siege of Jerusalem by the Franks of the First Crusades.

1191 AD - Served as a loyal vassal to Richard I during the Third Crusade, died during the taking of Cyprus.

1401 AD - Low-level courtier, devoted practitioner of the art of Courtly Love, came around to be an even more devoted admirer of Christine de Pizan.

1632 AD - Witnessed and transcribed the last trial of Galileo in Rome, died in a fall five years later.

1888 AD - An aspiring writer that was a frequent attendee of Mme de Caillavet’s salon, never hit it big but rubbed elbows with notable authors and thinkers.

Javier Madhu George was born April 25, 1994 just as the full moon hit its zenith to a couple who really hadn’t quite planned on kids. Not that they didn’t love him because they did. 100%. It was just that, well, it’s a surprise when you’re told you’re infertile and you’re 38. Leonora was a graphic artist, Dhaval a physics professor at U of C: Berkeley, and they had to adapt pretty quickly as Javi came not on as a surprise but as an early surprise at 8 months. He proved a bright, curious, and high-energy child and the sunshine of their busy days. He was the happiest damn baby, too, with not a trace of colic or illness. He grew fast and furious.

When he reached school age, he was a bit of a nightmare but, as he managed to pass his tests and learn well enough, they did not worry too much. He was a social little guy, beloved by his peers, and he did a pretty good job charming the adults surrounding him. In an attempt to get some of his energy out, his mother organized endless play-groups as well as trying to get him interested in sports. This failed but Javi did discover a love for things on wheels - bikes, scooters, skateboards - and could be found all over the neighborhood, zooming around.

The idyllic childhood came crashing to an abrupt halt when he was 9 years old. Leonora was diagnosed with advanced-stage breast cancer. Javi became her constant companion when he wasn’t at school and her husband put off papers and conferences to be with the family. Together they all fought hard and fierce. Unfortunately, in the end, cancer won and Leonora passed away a year later. Heartbroken, father and son clung to each other for the next twelve months. Then, as puberty edged into the picture, the conversations grew more awkward and formal. Dhaval retreated to his work. Though he never abandoned his son, his teaching kept him busy and Javi developed a latch-key mentality. Javi began picking up odd jobs and being even more social. Time moved on.

Nowadays, much to the surprise of some of his teachers, Javi is in his first year of college at the U of C. However, not to the surprise of anyone, he hasn’t picked a major yet. It’s okay, though. He already figures he’ll be doing a 5 year college plan... Because it’s hard to do your degree in 4 years when you’re being a part-time everything else in the world. It’s going to be hilarious when he realizes that he can’t part-time being a god!

» Personality:
The first impression anyone gets of Javi is one of boundless energy and noise and good-natured humility. Unapologetically hyperactive, he remains in a constant state of motion - even if it’s just a hand playing with a pen. It makes him exhausting to watch, really. His mind works in an equally non-stop fashion and the most frequent comment on his report cards was the time-honored “bright but lacks focus.” This is the truth of it; he is very intelligent and learns quickly but his restless curiosity leaves him a jack of all trades and a master of none. He knows a little about a lot and finds it all fascinating. It makes him a great conversationalist. Completely outgoing, he is also the guy who knows everyone and, more importantly, likes everyone. In fact, he finds it uncomfortable to be alone and actively seeks out people to be around. When left isolated, he gets fretful and grumpy, liable to lash out in a surprisingly sullen manner. He will never understand introversion and his need for interaction and the speed at which he processes things leaves blind spots in his nature to the importance of quiet or solitude. His chatter can come across like blunt hammers on a sensitive nature. He is quick to apologize when he gives offense, though - even if he has no idea why he is apologizing.

He is the eternal optimist, finding good things in all things. He is generous with his possessions and his time. His charm lies in this combined with his inherent sweetness. It has lead to an active social life with a wide range of friends. However, while he will give you the shirt off his back, he is also not really the guy most people want to spend their lives with. Not yet, anyway. He is easy to find, easy to hang out with, and easy to ditch. He never holds it against you; He is completely aware of how exhausting he is. This self-knowledge tempers some of the rougher edges and it’s hard to stay mad at someone inherently resigned to being your “fun-time” friend. Don’t worry, bro. He’ll still be here. And that offer is true for all of his many exes, both male and female. His romances are never long-lived but they almost always end amicably (frequently with Javi taking most of the blame for failure). Charming guy but not a lifer - not at this stage of things, anyway.

No temper to speak of, hardly any ego to protect, and an unpredictable (and often inappropriate) sense of humor round out this good-natured, fast-talking charmer.

» Other Notes: Javi has undiagnosed ADHD and, let’s face it, even if it were diagnosed, he would refuse to take the medication to treat it. The boy won’t even take aspirin.

He also noticeably has highly irregular sleep patterns, cycling through life on little to no sleep. Four continuous hours is considered a lot for him and he has been known to be functional for 48 hours straight without any sleep.

He is as Kinsey 3 as you can get without having it tattooed on your forehead that you dig both boys and girls.

» Sample Journal:

So I keep having this weird dream where I’m chasing the sun but it’s not really the sun it’s a big orange or mango or something orange and fruit-like and I keep getting more and more pissed off that I can’t get it and I’m just so hungry and I know that’s the only thing I want to eat and then I wake up with a splitting headache. I hate headaches. They suck. Dad says I should just take some aspirin and get over it but I hate taking pills and aspirin tastes really funny anyway and a cup of black coffee or a big soda takes care of it eventually anyway so why bother with pills?

Anyway enough with the journal. I have to get to work. I took Emmy’s shift so she could study for her finals and then I have to help Mrs Sanchez with her weeding because her arthritis is kicking up again and I should probably study for that test in the whatchacallit class. I forget. I’ll check my notes. Okay. Bye bye!!!

» Sample Log:

Humming under his breath, Javi gave another hard push with his back foot before shifting back to balance on his board and ride the slight hill downwards towards campus. He had left the house with plenty of time to spare so there was no rush. But he liked the feel of the slight wind in his hair and gravity was helping so who was he to complain at some speed? Besides, he figured that if he got to campus early, he could swing by his dad’s office, drop off some of Karen’s vegan chocolate chip muffins, and then see if his book had arrived from interlibrary loan.

In fact... He grinned. That sounded like the best idea ever! Dropping his foot back again, he shoved at the ground and ducked low to decrease air drag. Now he was totally going to get there early. He loved it when he figured out the best way to multi-task.
